WHAT WE DO
The RMCAD Galleries and VASD Program foster creative inquiry through a variety of events, exhibitions, and opportunities, and through direct interaction with leading local, national, and international thinkers and makers. These two programs comprise the college’s Creative Programming department and operate as a hub of creativity and connection for our students, faculty, staff, alumni, and anyone interested in contemporary art and design.
GALLERIES
RMCAD is home to multiple galleries featuring dynamic and innovative work from contemporary artists and designers, RMCAD alumni, current students, and faculty. Open to the public, these galleries serve as a place to foster critical discourse around art and design for the RMCAD and broader communities by presenting challenging, educational, and significant exhibitions and projects.

VISITING ARTIST, SCHOLAR & DESIGNER PROGRAM
The Visiting Artist, Scholar, and Designer (VASD) Program explores critical, diverse, and creative inquiry. This interdisciplinary initiative enriches the academic experience at RMCAD and engages communities in the Denver metro area and beyond. The VASD Program values are: Passionate Curiosity, Diversity of Perspectives and Voices, Mentoring/Relationship Building, and Vigorous Thought.
This program unites the entire RMCAD community and the public at our free artist talks presented by our roster of distinguished guests. These guests also engage with RMCAD students and faculty through private, RMCAD-exclusive events, such as studio visits, gallery talks, and workshops.
Winner of Westword’s Best of Denver 2016
The VASD Program was voted “Best Incubator for Visiting Artists and Scholars” in the Arts and Entertainment category. Westword writes, “The program continues to push the intellectual and inventive envelope by celebrating and exploring the work and words of artists from across the cultural spectrum.”
Student Learning at gallery and VASD Program opportunities
When RMCAD students engage in Gallery and VASD Program events and resources, those students have the opportunity for additional learning that complements their academic coursework. RMCAD calls these opportunities “Sidequests.” A term commonly used in gaming, sidequests are additional adventures that allow students to gain resources alongside a student’s primary journey. At RMCAD, Sidequests complement students’ in-class learning, enrich their educational experience, and contribute to their success at RMCAD and in their careers. When engaging with the Galleries and VASD Program students learn in the following areas:
Art + Design Practice
Students develop their ability to responsibly use technology, tools, and skills for a sustainable practice.
Professional Development
Students explore occupational standards, conceptualize, industry information, and conceptualize career possibilities.
Cultural Awareness
Students collaborate in a diverse community, stimulate their awareness of ethical viewpoints, and challenge assumptions.
